Team Scotland Selection Races
The selection races for the 2017 WSCO will be held at Faskally Wood, Pitlochry on Sunday 28 August with start times allocated between 1230 and 1330 hours. There will be separate races for males and females, junior and senior (see relevant dates of birth below) and when entering please ensure that athletes run in the correct category.
Entries should be sent by email to: blair_young@hotmail.co.uk with the entry fee (£3 per competitor) payable on the day of the races. Closing date for entries is Saturday 20 August.
There is no running up or down at ISF events and we therefore cannot allow any runners competing out-with their grouping to be competitive. Please help us to achieve this as we are relying on Schools to check dates of birth. Please note details at the bottom of this information - particularly with the 3 year Senior age group!
At the Championships all courses are of Tech 4 Standard and vary by course length. For selection purposes and in recognition that Schools who are selected have time for improvement, the Selection Races will be Tech 3 with a few Tech 4 controls on the course.

Eligability - This selection event is open to all students who participated in the Scottish Schools Orienteering Festival held in June 2016. Any athlete who would like an exceptional circumstance considered should email Blair Young by Friday 19 August.
Selection criteria - the winning School Team will be decided by adding together the times of the first three runners on the course from each School. If the winning School declines the invitation to participate in WSCO 2017 the place may be offered to the next fastest School Team.
Thereafter the five fastest runners on each course who are not in the School Team selected for WSCO 2017 will be offered a place in the Scottish Select Team for the Championships. Where one of these runners turns down their selection the place may be offered to the next fastest competitor in the category.
Eligibility Forms - will be distributed at the end of the award ceremony. These will need to be returned by Saturday 17 September to allow time to complete our entry forms for the Championships and start to arrange the flights etc.
Final Details
Final details for the selection race will be issued along with a start list by Thursday 25 August.
WSCO 2017
The dates for the Championships are 22-28 April 2017.
Travel from Scotland to Palermo, Sicily will involve at least one plane change and at the moment the best option appears to be travelling via London.
A this point it is therefore difficult to give an overall cost for the trip as we will need to negotiate flights once we know the composition of the team. there have also been increases to the daily rate paid by participants which is now €50 per day and with the lower value of the £ v € the final figure is unlikely to be less than £700 per person. Please remember that this includes full board and all competition fees.

Composition of teams and rules for participation
There will be a competition organised in the following categories:
- M2 school teams, boys born in 2002 / 2003
- W2 school teams, girls born in 2002 / 2003
- M1 school teams, boys born in 1999 /2000 /2001 maximum two participants born in 1999
- W1 school teams, girls born in 1999 /2000 / 2001 maximum two participants born in 1999
- M2 selected teams, boys born in 2002 / 2003
- W2 selected teams, girls born in 2002 / 2003
- M1 selected teams, boys born in 1999 / 2000 / 2001 maximum two participants born in 1999
- W1 selected teams, girls born in 1999 / 2000 / 2001 maximum two participants born in 1999
Each student may only compete in one team.
Please also note that no Team will be allowed to travel without at least 4 members. Qualification can be made with only 3 but at least 4 students need to be entered for the actual Championships.
