Team Scotland Selection Races
Saturday 3 November 2012
The selection races for next year's World Schools' Championships are now confirmed for Saturday 3 November at Tentsmuir, Fife. This area has been selected as it has similar characteristics to the areas that will be used for the Championship courses in Portugal.
Start times will be between 12.00 and 13.00 with strict time intervals between runners from the same School/Club.
There will be separate races for boys and girls in the 2 age group categories:
Junior - students born in 1998 and 1999
Seniors - Students born in 1996 and 1997
There is no running up or down at ISF events and we therefore cannot allow any runners competing out-with these groupings to be competitive. Please help us to achieve this as we are relying on Schools to check dates of birth.
At the Championships all courses are of Tech 4 Standard and vary by course length. For selection purposes and in recognition that Schools who are selected have time for improvement, the Selection Races will be as follows:
Juniors - Tech 3 with 1 or 2 Tech 4 controls near the end of the courses.
Seniors - Tech 4

Eligability - This event is open to all students who participated in the Scottish Schools Orienteering Festival held in June 2012.
Selection criteria - the winning School Team will be decided by adding together the times of the first three runners on the course from each School. If the winning School declines the invitation to participate in WSCO 2013 the place may be offered to the next fastest School Team.
Thereafter the five fastest runners on each course who are not in the Team selected for WSCO 2012 will be offered a place in the Scottish Select Team for the Championships. Where one of these runners turns down their selection the place may be offered to the next fastest competitor in the category.
Eligibility Forms - will be distributed at the end of the award ceremony. These will need to be returned by Friday 16 November to allow time to complete our entry forms for the Championships.
WSCO 2013
The dates for the Championships are 15-21 April 2013.
We would hope to fly out on the morning of the 15th from either Edinburgh or Glasgow but several of the possible carriers have not published their 2013 schedules.

The entry fee for the Selection Races is £2.00/ pupil.

Electronic entries are welcome to: blair.young@talk21.com with a hard copy signed by the Head Teacher and a cheque for the entries being brought to the event on the day.
Final Details
These will be issued along with start times on Friday 26 October.
